چکیده

We present the results of a complete tree level calculation of the processes pp(p̄) → Wbb̄ and Wbb̄ + jet that includes the single top signal and all irreducible backgrounds simultaneously. In order to probe the structure of the Wtb coupling with the highest possible accuracy and to look for possible deviations from standard model predictions, we identify sensitive observables and propose an optimal set of cuts which minimizes the background compared to the signal. At the LHC, the single top and the single anti-top rates are different and the corresponding asymmetry yields additional information. The analysis shows that the sensitivity for anomalous couplings will be improved at the LHC by a factor of 2–3 compared to the expectations for the first measurements at the upgraded Tevatron. Still, the bounds on anomalous couplings obtained at hadron colliders will remain 2–8 times larger than those from high energy γe colliders, which will, however, not be available for some time. All basic calculations have been carried out using the computer package CompHEP. The known NLO corrections to the single top rate have been taken into account.

Probe of the Wtb coupling in tt̄ pair production at Linear Colliders

The Wtb vertex can be probed on future colliders in the processes of single top production (LHC, pp mode, NLC, γe mode) and of top pair production (NLC, e+e− mode). We analyse observables sensitive to anomalous Wtb couplings in the top pair production process of e+e− collisions. In particular, forward-backward and spin-spin asymmetries of the top decay products and the asymmetry of the lepton e...

Distinguishing WH and Wbb̄ production at the Fermilab Tevatron

The production of a Higgs boson in association with a W -boson is the most likely process for the discovery of a light Higgs at the Fermilab Tevatron. Since it decays primarily to b-quark pairs, the principal background for this associated Higgs production process is Wbb̄, where the bb̄ pair comes from the splitting of an off mass shell gluon. In this paper we investigate whether the spin angular...

Precise determination of the Wtb couplings at LHC

Top pair production at LHC is the ideal place to search for nonstandard Wtb couplings in t → Wb → lνb decays. The lb forward-backward asymmetry in the W rest frame is very sensitive to σ couplings, and can spot one-loop QCD corrections to the decay vertex with more than 5σ statistical significance. We discuss the potential of this asymmetry to signal nonstandard γ and σ couplings and compare wi...

QCD corrections and nonstandard three vector boson couplings in W+W- production at hadron colliders.

The process p p (−) → W+W− + X → l1 ν1l−2 ν̄2 + X is calculated to O(αs) for general C and P conserving WWV couplings (V = γ, Z). The prospects for probing the WWV couplings in this reaction are explored. The impact of O(αs) QCD corrections and various background processes on the observability of non-standard WWV couplings in W+W− production at the Tevatron and the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is...

What is the Wbb̄, Zbb̄ or tt̄bb̄ irreducible background to the light Higgs boson searches at LHC?

The Wbb̄, Zbb̄ and tt̄bb̄ production at LHC are irreducible backgrounds for possible observability of the Standard Model (SM) and Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) light Higgs boson respectively in the associated WH , ZH and tt̄H production followed by the H → bb̄ decay. We present a comparison of the background estimates as obtained with (a) complete massive matrix element implemented in ...
